Gerrard Campbell

Gerrard Campbell joined 850 WFTL in June, 2007, hired as the station's Morning News Anchor.  Now, he hosts the WFTL Afternoon News each weekday from 5pm-6pm.

Gerrard has been doing news since 1979, when he began his broadcasting career CFLG-FM in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada.  By 1980, he moved to nearby Ottawa, the Canadian Capital, to begin a 6-year stint at All-News station CFRA, one of Canada’s most popular radio stations.

In 1986, Gerrard made the jump from radio to TV, working as a reporter for CKWS-TV in Kingston, Ontario and eventually became that station’s news director.  But the warm South Florida sun enticed him to leave the Canadian cold for the morning news anchor at WJNO in West Palm Beach, where he stayed for 7 years.

Some of the big stories that Gerrard covered: the 1982 takeover of the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa by Armenian gunmen, a visit to Canada by Pope John Paul II and the heated 2000 Presidential Election Race in Florida where George W. Bush beat Al Gore by a slim 537 votes out of 6-million cast.

Gerrard is originally from Gary, Indiana, and grew up in the Canadian province of Ontario, so you know he’s a big hockey fan!
