- It is recommended that only code-compliant and approved hurricane shutters be used to protect your windows and doors during a storm
- If plywood is used, use 4x8-foot sheets of plywood 5/8-inch to 1/2-inch thick to put over windows. Ask for exterior plywood.
- Work gloves
- Work boots
- Hand tools - a hammer, screwdrivers, hand saws, shovel and pickax for after the storm
- If you use a chainsaw to clear debris, exercise extreme caution and consult the safety guide included with your saw.
- Power screwdriver
- 1/4 machine screw sockets and screws
- Assorted nails
- Plastic sheeting to cover furniture
- Rope
- Duct tape to waterproof items; masking tape isn't strong enough.
- Canvas or plastic tarps
